Call centre and hearing?

I work in a call centre and have been there for about 4 weeks or so. I have had ear aches lately and once in awhile ringing in the ear and a strange feeling of been..zapped..
Its just in one ear, and i constantly change the ear peice from ear to ear all day so im not just using the one ear all day. I am seeing the doc today but i just want to see what others who work in call centres have to say too.
How high is the volume on your ear piece? It's quite possible that either a too-loud earpiece, or one that emits high frequencies, is damaging your hearing... If you can't turn down the volume, I'd recommend trying some of those earplugs meant for listening to music. They allow you to hear clearly, but help block out just enough sound to protect your hearing in the long term. You could also try getting some sort of padding between your ear and the earpiece, or using normal earplugs but not inserting them all the way (because you have to hear a bit, obviously!).

It's always possible that your ear issues aren't related to being at a call centre, but better safe than sorry! Ringing in the ear is often a sign of hearing damage.
